Below is information and resources of relevance to parents who have members in 1st Liphook Scouts.
Information about Scouting can be found on the UK HQ website, including details on all the badges that members can earn.
This platform holds a record of your child’s details. You can update their personal details via this online control panel, see details about event participation, and the badges they’ve earned. Subs are paid via OSM too.
We have a Facebook Group where you can see updates about what the various sections have been doing.
Browse the calendar below for group-based diary dates. For the weeknight section programmes, please sign in to OSM or talk to your leader.
Subscriptions (subs) are the group’s primary source of income and are used to fund the equipment, the cost of the hall and many activities. Our group is a registered charity, a non-profit organisation and we are completely run by volunteers.
Subs for 2024 have been set at £40 per term, payable in January, April and September. When new members enrol, their parents log into our Online Scout Manager system (OSM). On OSM they can setup payment details. Our treasurer then initiates a payment run close to the end of the months when the payments are due. If for some reason you miss a payment, you may receive a reminder email. If this is the case, please feel free to contact our treasurer at treasurer@liphookscouts.org.uk.
Whether for subs or other activities, parents can sometimes find themselves in financial difficulties. As an organisation we strongly want to make sure young members have the opportunity to participate and we would encourage you to have a discreet and confidential discussion to find a way to avoid any of our members missing out. In these instances, please feel free to contact either Bryan Jackson (our Group Scout Leader) on gsl@liphookscouts.org.uk or Stuart Clark (Trustee Board Chair) on chair@liphookscouts.org.uk
When a new member joins the parent should automatically receive an email asking them to sign-up to our online system (OSM). This is a secure site with password control where only relevant people with a direct need can access your child’s data. OSM is compliant with GDPR. If you do not receive notification to sign-up, please contact Stuart Clark (Trustee Board Chair) on chair@liphookscouts.org.uk. We urge all parents to take time to log into OSM and check that the details held for your child is accurate, especially for medical, dietary, any sensitive information and your contact details. This is primarily for safeguarding so that our leaders can react quickly if an incident occurs.
Our scout group has its own Scout Shop, selling all uniforms and other Scouting items, books key rings and other accessories. The prices are as set by the Scout Association and are typically as found on the Scout Store Ltd website, with all proceeds go to Liphook Scout Group. The shop is open at our hall on one Saturday near the start of each term, in time for members to get any new uniforms before investitures. The dates are published on the group calendar above and by email.
New items can be obtained at other times by emailing scoutshop@liphookscouts.org.uk with any requirements.
Inevitably with any group of young people, occasionally there can be issues where individuals don’t get on. Our leaders take safeguarding seriously and are always vigilant on section nights to address any problems. If your child is unhappy for any reason, please do make contact with the section leader involved or feel free to contact with Bryan or Stuart so that we can address the problem rather than have a situation that results in one of our young members leaving the group.
In Scouts, the welfare of children and young people is our priority. Everyone has a duty to report safeguarding concerns and all adults associated with the group have a defined code of conduct to follow. All of the adults within the group will complete a DBS, they all participate in safety and safeguarding training and all uniformed leaders will be First Aid qualified.
Although subs are our primary source of income, we often participate in local events such as the Carnival to raise additional funds. We are often looking for new ways to raise money and welcome any thoughts from our parents.
All of us lead very busy lives and finding extra time can be difficult. If you do want to volunteer, we have many different ways in which our parents can volunteer. Our Group is fortunate that we already have a large contingent of volunteers but there is always room for you to help. See the volunteering section on our website to get more information, or you can feel free to talk to the section leaders or Bryan and Stuart.
Our contact page has details on the ways to get in touch with us.
